Moondust was the first "super hybrid" Mini Carnation created by Florigene in 1994. During 1996 Moodust became commercially available to the floral industry. The unique shades of purple in Florigene Carnations was derived from the blue genes of a common garden Petunia. Vase life of these hybrid Mini Carnations exceeds that of regular Mini Carnations.

There are only two growers in South America licensed to produce Florigene Carnations. These two growers supply all of Mexico, Canada, and the USA. This explains why Florigene Carnations are always in short supply.
