There are many cultivars of Hydrangea... but the one most commonly used in the floral trade is Hydrangea macrophylla. A favorite of florists... Hydrangeas naturally grow in shades of lavender, pink and white. Adding aluminum to acid soil will change the flowers to bi-color blue. To help increase shelf life... cover the flower heads with a light weight damp cloth. 

Vase life varies from 5 to 7 days depending on bud stage and environmental conditions.
