Safflower
is sometimes called False Saffron. It is botanically known as
Carthamus tinctorius. Safflower is native to the Mediterranean and
Western Asia were it was cultivated as a source of yellow and red
dye. Safflower is available seasonally usually from late spring
thru late November. Bunches are quite large measuring 24" or
more in overall length with 10 stems per bunch. Vase life is
excellent varying from 7 to 14 days depending on bud stage and
environmental conditions. Safflower is considered a medium filler
flower. Safflower flowers dry well if hung upside down in a dark
area.
