This
breath taking Protea is called Waratah. Its actually not a Protea,
but a member of the Proteaceae family. Waratah is botanically
known as Telopea speciosissima. It is the floral emblem for New
South Wales, an Australian state. The pictured Waratah is shown
freshly cut. The red inflorescences will open and spread similar
to a Pincushion Protea.
Waratah Protea should kept in a
tropical cooler set at 60 to 65 degrees. Vase life is excellent... with the flowers lasting
10 to 14 days.
