Bird of Paradise

This dramatic form flower is botanically known as Strelitzia reginae. The multi-colored florets of the Bird of Paradise derived its common name from the crown atop the heads of tropical birds. Bird of Paradise flowers can reach a length of 6″ and last for 7 to 14 days. Often times the flowers need a bit of to emerge from the protective sheath. Gently open the sheath that contains the flower and gently pry the flower out. Each sheath contains two flowers. Bird of Paradise can be safely kept in the cooler with other flowers providing the temperature is at or above 36 degrees.
